A tragic house fire in West Yorkshire has claimed the lives of a nine-year-old girl and her father, while an 11-year-old girl remains in critical condition.

Emergency services responded to the blaze on Russell Close in Heckmondwike just after 6:10 AM on Sunday. Despite receiving medical treatment, the father was pronounced dead at the scene, and his daughter later passed away in hospital, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, though initial findings suggest it is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Paul Greatorex said, "We are working closely with the fire service to understand the circumstances of this heartbreaking incident that has resulted in the loss of a father and daughter. Our team has been conducting extensive enquiries and offering support to the victims’ relatives both in the UK and abroad."

He added that while enquiries are ongoing, a report will be prepared for the coroner, and no foul play is currently suspected.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that four fire crews attended the scene and managed to rescue three individuals from the property, two of whom were transported to hospital by ambulance.

"Our fire investigators are collaborating with police to determine the exact cause of the fire," a spokesperson said.
