Philippine Embassy in Dhaka Celebrates 127th Independence Day with Vibrant Diplomatic Reception

Dhaka, 19 June: The Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh, led by Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, hosted a grand diplomatic reception at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel to mark the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

The event gathered dignitaries from the Government of Bangladesh, diplomatic missions, business leaders, cultural institutions, media representatives, and members of the Filipino community. Honorable Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Adviser to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, attended as the Chief Guest and spoke warmly about the enduring cultural and diplomatic bonds between Bangladesh and the Philippines. He also praised recent collaborations in film and the creative industries that have gained international recognition.

In her keynote remarks, Ambassador Cainglet honored the spirit of Filipino heroes and emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to inclusive growth, sustainable development, and regional cooperation through ASEAN. She highlighted ongoing bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, textiles, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.

A vibrant cultural segment showcased Filipino artistry, featuring a captivating performance by internationally acclaimed soprano duo The Nightingales and a traditional Singkil dance presented by the Filipino community in Bangladesh. The performers’ heartfelt rendition of a beloved Bangladeshi song drew resounding applause and underscored the shared cultural values of both nations.

Guests enjoyed a diverse array of traditional Filipino cuisine, while a mini-exhibit displayed artisanal Filipino products promoting trade and cultural appreciation.

Ambassador Cainglet presented commemorative gifts to Chief Guest Farooki, symbolizing the creativity and heritage of the Filipino people, and extended thanks to the Embassy’s partners, including Sentro Rizal, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Honorary Consuls, BPCCI, and the Filipino diaspora in Bangladesh.

The evening celebrated not just the Philippines’ journey to independence but also the strength of its friendship with Bangladesh—rooted in shared dreams, creative collaboration, and mutual respect.
