Mizanur Rahman, of Russia Lane, Bethnal Green, was charged on Saturday, August 16, with the murder of his 73-year-old mother, Sufia Khatun. The tragic incident occurred at the family home on Thursday, August 14, at approximately 9 pm, when police and the London Ambulance Service responded to reports of a woman with a serious head injury. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Sufia Khatun was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the police investigation is ongoing and a motive has yet to be confirmed, the Metropolitan Police have launched a full-scale murder investigation. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the precise cause of death.
