Finnish police have launched an investigation into the death of 27-year-old social media influencer Olivia Oras after she reportedly lost consciousness while receiving anaesthesia and medication ahead of a planned liposuction procedure at a private clinic in Helsinki.
Oras was due to undergo the cosmetic procedure at Plastic Surgery Center in the Finnish capital on 3 September when she reportedly became unconscious during preparations for the operation. She was subsequently transferred to Helsinki University Hospital, where she died the same day.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death as aggravated negligent homicide. However, the investigation remains at an early stage and no conclusion about the cause of death or responsibility has been established.
The Helsinki Police Department confirmed that it had received a request to investigate the death three days before making the announcement.
Police said they currently had no further information to release while investigators examine what happened at the private clinic.
The circumstances surrounding the administration of local anaesthesia and pre-surgery medication are expected to form part of the investigation, following reports that Oras lost consciousness before the planned liposuction procedure began.

Plastic Surgery Center in Helsinki remains open and continues to advertise appointments for a range of plastic and cosmetic procedures.
Following media reports about Oras’s death, staff profiles were reportedly removed from the clinic's website.
There has been no finding by investigators that the clinic or any individual staff member was responsible for Oras’s death.
