A 42-year-old Mannings Heath resident has received an immediate custodial sentence of five years and four months after specialist detectives uncovered an extensive cache of illicit digital material and systemic violations of indefinite court restrictions. Mark Grindon, of Swallowfield Close, Mannings Heath, Horsham, was sentenced following comprehensive proceedings across Hove Crown Court and Crawley Magistrates' Court. Sussex Police initiated the detailed digital forensic inquiry after officers intercepted Grindon during a routine vehicle stop, subsequently exposing multiple concealed profiles, covert hardware, and deliberate non-compliance with statutory child protection legislation.
The multi-year enforcement operation gathered momentum in December 2023 when traffic officers stopped Grindon’s vehicle acting on intelligence regarding suspected violations. A search conducted at the roadside revealed an operational smartphone, an item strictly prohibited under the terms of Grindon’s standing court orders. The following day, authorities formally charged him with two counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Grindon was remanded into custody at Crawley Magistrates’ Court, subsequently entered guilty pleas at Lewes Crown Court, and received a 20-month prison sentence on 7 March 2024.
While Grindon served his initial term, Sussex Police digital forensics specialists initiated an exhaustive analysis of his seized electronic equipment. The investigation revealed eleven clandestine social media accounts operating under the pseudonyms 'Bob' and 'Ricard', deliberately designed to bypass law enforcement supervision. In August 2025, officers re-arrested Grindon and executed an entry and search warrant at an address in Mannings Heath. Detectives seized a second smartphone, a laptop computer, a television streaming device, and multiple secure digital memory cards, with comprehensive forensic analysis revealing more than 1,400 indecent images depicting real children.
On the day of his August 2025 arrest, authorities charged Grindon with three counts of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child, sixteen counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and two counts of failing to comply with sex offender register notification requirements. He appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court the following morning and was remanded in continuous detention pending indictment before the Crown Court.
Official court records indicate Grindon’s legal history dates back to October 2016, when the judiciary first imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order alongside sentences for six counts of making indecent images of children. Following additional unlawful conduct, the order was varied and made permanent in December 2019 to ensure lifelong public protection against digital exploitation.
Grindon’s trial proceedings commenced at Hove Crown Court on 14 September 2026, where he faced an amended indictment comprising six breaches of his protective order, three counts of producing indecent images of children, and one count of failing to comply with notification duties. Grindon entered guilty pleas to five order breaches but elected to face trial on the remaining five charges. On 18 September 2026, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all contested indictments, leading the trial judge to impose an immediate term of five years' imprisonment across the ten substantiated offences.
The judicial penalties escalated further during a subsequent appearance at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 28 September 2026. The bench addressed Grindon’s active refusal to assist statutory investigations, specifically his outright refusal to surrender mandatory security PINs, biometric patterns, and system passwords for his encrypted electronic devices. Magistrates imposed an additional, consecutive custodial sentence of four months for failing to comply with the disclosure order, bringing his aggregate prison term to five years and four months.
Detective Sergeant Melanie Pyle of Sussex Police highlighted the severe operational findings, stating to journalists that the magnitude of Grindon’s offending and his disregard for the harm caused could not be underestimated. Daily Dazzling Dawn learned through police statements that each image discovered across the seized media represented documented abuse against an actual child. Grindon remains in closed custody serving his sentence, subject to ongoing public protection management across Sussex.
