Portugal seemed headed for a tough night as Spain controlled the early stages of the match, taking a deserved lead through Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi. However, Portugal responded quickly, with Nuno Mendes firing in a stunning equaliser just five minutes later.
Spain regained the lead before halftime thanks to a clinical finish from Mikel Oyarzabal, the hero of their Euro 2024 final victory. Bruno Fernandes looked to have brought Portugal level again, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Cristiano Ronaldo, however, delivered when it mattered—netting the equaliser with 30 minutes remaining. The match ultimately went to penalties, where Diogo Costa saved Alvaro Morata’s spot-kick, sealing the win and the title for Portugal.
