A talk by Advisor Mahfuz Alam on the 2024 July Uprising in Bangladesh was held on September 12 at the Khalili Lecture Theatre at SOAS University in London. The event, titled "July Uprising Conversation," ran from 4 PM to 6 PM and was organized by the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
The discussion, which explored various facets of the student-led mass uprising, was moderated by Professor Mustaq Khan and Professor Naomi Hossain. Bangladesh's High Commissioner to the UK, Abida Islam, also spoke at the event. Advisor Alam responded to numerous questions from attendees, providing insight into the recent political events in Bangladesh.
The program was briefly overshadowed by a protest outside the venue. Video clips circulating on social media showed Awami League activists, who had gathered to demonstrate against the event, throwing eggs at a car belonging to the high commission. Someone named Fahim was seen being beaten by Awami League activists. The police removed the protestors from the scene.
