Final Selfie Before Tragedy

A young doctor couple from Rajasthan, filled with hope and excitement for a fresh start in the UK with their three children, met with a heartbreaking tragedy when the flight meant to take them to their new life crashed just moments after take-off. What was supposed to be the beginning of a new chapter turned into their final journey together.

Dr. Komi Vyas, who previously worked at a hospital in Udaipur, had recently quit her job to reunite with her husband, Dr. Prateek Joshi, who had been living and working in London. Dr. Joshi had flown back to Banswara just days earlier to accompany his wife and their children—eight-year-old daughter Miraya and five-year-old twin sons Nakul and Pradyut—to their new home overseas.

They departed for Ahmedabad on Wednesday, and early Thursday, they boarded Air India Flight 171 bound for London-Gatwick. Tragically, the flight was airborne for just 32 seconds before it failed to ascend further, plummeted rapidly, and crashed into a building, erupting into a fireball. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived. Several others on the ground also lost their lives in the horrific accident.

A heart-wrenching photo has since emerged: a selfie taken by Dr. Joshi just before take-off. The image shows the couple smiling warmly, seated beside each other, with their three children sitting across the aisle. Their faces radiate joy and excitement as they looked forward to the life that awaited them in London.

That single photograph—filled with hope, love, and togetherness—is now all that remains of a family whose dreams were shattered in an instant. The picture has deeply moved many, serving as a painful reminder of how fleeting and fragile life can be.
