Israeli tank shelling has reportedly killed at least 45 Palestinians in Khan Younis, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza. The attack occurred as large crowds were gathered waiting for aid trucks in the southern city. In addition to the fatalities, hundreds of people were injured, with the health ministry reporting that “dozens of critical cases” have been brought to a nearby medical complex.

Medical services in the area are under extreme pressure. Emergency rooms, intensive care units, and operating theatres are said to be severely overcrowded. The ministry has warned that healthcare workers are functioning under dire conditions, facing a severe shortage of essential, life-saving medicines. In response, officials have renewed urgent appeals for international assistance and the immediate delivery of medical aid.

The Israeli military has not issued a comment on the incident so far.

Earlier the same day, former U.S. President Donald Trump joined G7 leaders in calling for a de-escalation of violence in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza, amid growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis in the region.

This recent shelling follows another deadly incident reported on Monday, when at least 34 Palestinians were allegedly shot and killed near food distribution centers. That event marked the highest single-day death toll since Israel and U.S.-backed aid centers began operating in Gaza last month. Thousands of Palestinians have been attempting to reach these aid points, often passing through areas under Israeli military control, in hopes of receiving food and basic supplies.
