A tragic shooting incident in downtown Los Angeles left two people dead and six others injured early Monday morning, following an unofficial after-party linked to the Hard Summer music festival, authorities reported.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. near 14th and Paloma streets. The area was reportedly hosting several parties at the time.
LAPD officers had been patrolling the neighborhood late Sunday around 11 p.m. when they spotted individuals entering what appeared to be an unauthorized gathering. Approximately 50 people were present, and officers proceeded to shut down the party, arresting one person for gun possession.
Just hours later, police responded to reports of gunfire in the same vicinity and discovered eight victims had been shot. One male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female victim succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Six others sustained injuries, with two reported in critical condition. Some victims were transported by emergency services, while others arrived at hospitals on their own.
The shooting reportedly took place near a party advertised online as an unofficial after-party for the Hard Summer music festival held in Inglewood. Organizers of that event stated that the incident occurred several blocks away from their location, which they described as peaceful.
As of now, no arrests have been confirmed, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
