  • Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after Loredana Morosanu was found stabbed to death in Finglas, Dublin, with a male suspect known to her now in custody.

The woman found dead at a residence in north Dublin has been formally named as Loredana Morosanu, a 48-year-old Romanian national who had been living in Ireland for nearly a decade. Gardaí discovered her body at a property on Melville Terrace in Finglas shortly after 4.30am on Monday, October 26, 2026, following reports of an incident. A man in his 40s, understood to be known to the victim, was arrested at a separate location in west Dublin at approximately 11am following an extensive manhunt across the capital. He remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region West Division.

The Scene and Initial Response-Emergency services were alerted to the address in the early hours of the Bank Holiday Monday. Upon arrival, paramedics and Garda units found Ms Morosanu with suspected stab wounds. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that investigators are examining a sequence of suspicious calls made from the scene by a male caller who claimed the victim had inflicted injuries upon herself before fleeing. Sources indicate that Ms Morosanu suffered at least two stab wounds. The Garda Technical Bureau immediately preserved the residence for a comprehensive forensic examination, while local search teams combed surrounding bins, bushes, and green spaces for evidence. Her remains were later transported to the City Morgue in Whitehall, where a post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 27.

The Victim: Loredana Morosanu- Loredana Morosanu, who also used the surname Simion on social media, was originally from the city of Botoșani in north-eastern Romania. Having resided in Ireland for at least nine years, she was a well-established member of the workforce, employed at Hickey's Pharmacy in Dublin. Her Facebook profile, which remains active, lists her as engaged and features numerous photographs with her partner. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that Ms Morosanu had posted a photograph online on Sunday evening—mere hours before her death—which appeared to show a red mark on her cheek and blood visible on the collar of her clothing.

The Suspect and the Investigation- The arrested man, aged in his 40s and also understood to be of Eastern European origin, had known the victim for a significant period. Following the discovery of the body, a large-scale operation was launched to locate him, culminating in his apprehension near Charlestown Shopping Centre in Finglas. He was taken to a Garda station in the DMR West Division where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours, excluding breaks. Detectives are liaising with the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding potential charges. A Senior Investigating Officer is coordinating the inquiry from an incident room at Finglas Garda Station, and a dedicated Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support Ms Morosanu's grieving relatives.

The death has sent shockwaves through the local community in Finglas, an area still scarred by the memory of a similar tragedy. In April 2021, 24-year-old mother-of-two Jennifer Poole was murdered by her ex-partner in the same estate. Local Sinn Féin TD Dessie Ellis described the latest incident as a "terrible tragedy," while Fianna Fáil councillor Keith Connolly spoke of the "great shock" reverberating through the neighbourhood. People Before Profit councillor Conor Reddy noted that the news had a "real resonance locally" and confirmed that community members were planning a vigil in Ms Morosanu's honour. The case has also reignited political discourse on gender-based violence. Ruth Coppinger of ROSA Socialist Feminism, writing on social media, highlighted that Gardaí believe the victim had endured ongoing violence, stating: "It is shocking to read that Loredana exhibited signs of violence and distress only this week. We need to examine why these signs are not picked up on and addressed." She called for participation in a planned march against femicide on November 25.

Garda Appeal- An Garda Síochána has issued an urgent public appeal for witnesses. Investigators are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the Melville Terrace area of Dublin 11 between midnight and 5.00am on Monday, October 26. Motorists travelling in the vicinity who may possess dash-cam footage are urged to make it available. Anyone with information is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
