The Nabi Gonj Education Trust (NET) UK proudly celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Sunday, June 15, 2025, with an exceptionally grand event held at the Royale Suite in Birmingham. This meticulously organized ceremony honored a quarter-century of the Trust's unwavering commitment to advancing education and empowering communities.
The splendid evening was skillfully compered by Miss Meghna Minara Uddin, with support from Mr. Firuj Khan and Mr. Abdus Shahid, joint coordinators of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations Committee. The program began with a heartfelt recitation from the Holy Quran by Trustee Shah Ali Haider, followed by a warm welcome speech from the President, Mr. Mahtab Mia.
The highlight of the event was the presence of Mr. Zafar Iqbal, the esteemed Lord Mayor of Birmingham, who attended as the Chief Guest. A distinguished array of Special Guests also addressed the gathering. Among them were notable figures such as Honorable Trustee Mr. Foishol Hussain Choudhury MSP, recognized for his significant achievements in politics; Mr. Abdul Munim Chowdhury Babu, former Member of Parliament for Nabigonj-Bahubol; and Mrs. Swornaly Chanda, Counsellor & Head of Chancery, representing the Assistant High Commissioner of Birmingham. Other prominent attendees included Mr. Shahanur Khan, Founder President of EPBA; Mr. Bashir Ahmed, former Chairman of BBCCI; Mr. Shahriar Ahmed Shumon, Secretary of BBCA; Barrister Ataur Rahman, Chairman of GSC and a Founder Secretary & former Chairman of NET; Mr. Kosru Khan, Secretary of GSC; Mr. Monchob Ali JP, former Chairman of GSC; Councillor Forhad Chowdhury; and Journalist Misbah Jamal. The event also celebrated individuals for their high achievements in various fields: Mr. Akbar Hussain (Consultant, Medicine), Mr. Ashid Ali (Head Teacher, Education), Mr. Miran Uddin (District Judge, Law), Mr. Liton Zaman (Sports), and Mr. Abdul Iqbal (Business).
Inspiring speeches were also delivered by various trustees, former chairmen, and advisors, including Professor Abdul Hannan (Founder Chairman), Kamrul Hassan Chunu, Fayzur Rahman Chow, Mujahid Miah, Mahbub Nurul Islam, Syed Nadir Aziz Daraz (Senior Trustee & Advisor), Bodiujjaman (Trustee & Advisor), and Md Abu Sufian (Senior Trustee & Advisor). Additional special guests included Mr. Afzal Miah, President of Hobigonj Zila Development Trust, UK, and Councillor Kamal Chowdhury. Senior trustees Tomimul Islam Chowdhury, Abu Taher MBE, and Abu Eusuf Chowdhury also shared their insights.
A significant moment of the evening was the unveiling of the Silver Jubilee Magazine. Lecturer Md Abdul Hye served as the editor, with Jabed Hussain as co-editor. The Chief Guest, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, formally unveiled the magazine.
Midway through the program, a compelling documentary showcased the vocational education activities at the Nobigonj UK ICT Institute. This institution, authorized by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board and housed in NET’s own building, began its operations in 2007. To date, approximately 5,000 students have successfully obtained certificates from the institute, enabling them to secure livelihoods both domestically and internationally.
The Nabi Gonj Education Trust is sustained by a robust network of over three hundred trustees. A new committee is formed every two years through a rigorous selection process, ensuring dynamic and effective leadership. The Trust currently holds assets, both movable and immovable, valued at over five crore Bangladeshi Taka. Operating under a government-approved and registered Deed of Trust, NET UK continues its vital mission of promoting education and empowering communities.
