Aspiring young individuals from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India are urged to prepare as the final ballots for the highly sought-after UK Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) and India Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) visas are set to open this July 2025. These "lottery" systems offer a unique gateway for thousands to experience life, work, and study in the United Kingdom for up to two years.
For citizens of Hong Kong and Taiwan, the second and final ballot for the 2025 Youth Mobility Scheme is just around the corner. Applicants must email their entry between 00:01 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and 00:01 am on Thursday, July 17, 2025 (Hong Kong or Taipei time, respectively). Successful entrants will be notified by Friday, August 1, 2025, and will then have 90 days to submit their full visa application. There are 1,000 places available for Hong Kong and 1,000 for Taiwan annually under the YMS. While most places were allocated in the February ballot, this July window represents the last opportunity for 2025. Eligibility typically requires applicants to be aged 18-30 (at the date of travel) and possess savings of at least £2,530.
Meanwhile, young Indian nationals eyeing a UK experience should mark their calendars for the second and final ballot of the India Young Professionals Scheme (YPS). This ballot is confirmed to open at 1:30 pm India Standard Time on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, and will close promptly at 1:30 pm IST on Thursday, July 24, 2025. With 3,000 places available for Indian citizens in 2025, the majority were filled in the February ballot, making this July period crucial for remaining spots. Eligible Indian applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old, hold a bachelor's degree or higher, and demonstrate savings of at least £2,530.
It is vital for all prospective applicants to understand that entering these ballots is free, but securing a spot is not a guarantee of a visa. Success in the ballot merely grants an invitation to apply for the full visa, which then incurs a visa application fee (currently £319 for YMS, £298 for YPS) and the Immigration Health Surcharge (currently £776 per year).
The UK government's Youth Mobility Scheme and the India Young Professionals Scheme are reciprocal cultural exchange programs designed to foster international understanding and provide invaluable experiences. While Japan and South Korea no longer require ballot entry for the YMS and can apply at any time, the ballot system remains in place for nationalities with high demand and limited allocations.
Applicants are strongly advised to visit the official GOV.UK website for precise eligibility criteria, detailed application instructions, and to ensure they meet all requirements before the ballot windows close. Duplicate entries will be rejected, and the ballot results are final. This July, the opportunity for a UK adventure hangs in the balance for thousands – don't miss your chance to enter!
