A 47-year-old Romanian man remains in Garda custody on Tuesday evening, suspected of murdering 48-year-old Loredana Morosanu at her rented apartment in Melville Terrace, Finglas, Dublin 11, as investigators confront disturbing evidence that the victim displayed visible signs of severe abuse and distress in the days leading up to her death.
Ms Morosanu was found with at least two stab wounds shortly after 4.30am on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 October 2026. Emergency services were dispatched after a male caller claimed she had taken her own life. Gardaí quickly established she had been murdered, and a six-hour manhunt was launched for the suspect—a man known to her for many years. Officers requested a media blackout during the search amid concerns he was armed, before arresting him at approximately 11am near Charlestown Shopping Centre, roughly one kilometre from the scene. He is being held at a Garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region West Division and can be questioned for up to 24 hours before detectives must charge him or refer a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that Ms Morosanu had run screaming from the same apartment just five days before she was stabbed to death inside it. A neighbour told journalists that the incident occurred at 1am on Wednesday, 21 October. It remains unclear whether this desperate plea for help was reported to An Garda Síochána at the time, and investigators are now examining whether earlier interventions could have altered the outcome.
Detectives are working to establish whether the killing followed a row. They are scrutinising CCTV footage that appears to show a man walking calmly away from the scene while making a phone call. The suspect initially claimed the woman had stabbed herself before fleeing.
On Sunday night, at 11.33pm—approximately five hours before emergency services were called—Ms Morosanu uploaded two photographs to her Facebook account without any accompanying text. In one image, she appears to be lying on a bed with two black eyes; in the other, taken in profile, her cheek is visibly inflamed and red, with what appears to be a red substance on the collar of her dressing gown. There is no indication of when the photographs were taken or how she sustained the injuries, but they stand as a chilling record of her final hours.
Her profile, which remains active under the name Loredana Simion, listed her as engaged, based in Dublin, originally from Botoșani in Romania, and employed at Hickey's Pharmacy as a healthcare advisor. In her biography, she had written: "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment!" She had moved into the Melville Terrace property as recently as two weeks before her death, having previously lived elsewhere in Finglas, and had resided in Ireland for at least nine years.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 27 October at the City Morgue in Whitehall, with the scene preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. Officers conducted house-to-house inquiries and harvested CCTV from the surrounding area, while search teams combed bins, hedges and green spaces near the estate. A Senior Investigating Officer is coordinating the inquiry from Finglas Garda Station, and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support her relatives.
Women's Aid paid tribute to Ms Morosanu, noting that she died in her home—"a place where everyone has the right to feel safe." The organisation said: "We are heart sore to hear about the violent death of Loredana Morosanu in Finglas yesterday. Our thoughts and solidarity are with Loredana's family, friends and community as they deal with this appalling tragedy."
Conor Reddy, People Before Profit councillor for Finglas-Ballymun, said he was "shocked and deeply saddened," noting the proximity of the killing to two previous deaths in the area. "This happened only minutes from where Jennie Poole was murdered in 2021, and a short distance from where Brazilian woman Fabiola Camara de Campos Silva was killed the same year," he said. "These women are remembered and their loss is still felt deeply in the local area. The news this morning brings pain back to the surface for many in the community. We're facing an epidemic of femicide and gender-based violence across this island."
Fianna Fáil councillor Keith Connolly spoke of the "great shock" in the community, while Independent councillor Gavin Pepper described it as "a heartbreaking day for Finglas." Sinn Féin TD Dessie Ellis called the death "a terrible tragedy for everyone concerned."
An Garda Síochána has renewed its appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone in the Melville Terrace area between midnight and 5.00am on Monday, 26 October, and for motorists with dash-cam footage to come forward. Information can be provided to Finglas Garda Station on 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
The central question now confronting investigators and the wider public is why the glaring distress signals visible in the final days of Ms Morosanu's life were not acted upon, and what must change to prevent another tragedy.
